We’re wired to treat uncertainty like a threat. Not metaphorically. Neurologically. Ambiguity scrambles our attention, tightens our thinking, and makes us reach for quick answers.
But futures work isn’t about replacing uncertainty with certainty. It’s about building the capacity to stay present, curious, and collective inside the unknown. That’s why facilitation matters: the container is what makes uncertainty usable.
So this week I am pondering where we are trying to “solve” uncertainty, when what we actually need is to practice living with it. (And actually, I think that futures literacy is key to living with uncertainty.)
