Walking, Sense-making & Sustainability
Work with me to craft interactive walks and participatory walkshops that are all about place, people and connection. I also occsionally teach and run workshops relating to sustainbility themes.
Come, walk with me…
To make sense of complex change, we need to disconnect from screens and reconnect with the world around us. Without this, even thinking about hopeful, sustainable futures can be a challenge. I think of my walking and sense-making work as “pre-political sustainability work” because it deals with the stuff that needs to happen before people can think about sustainable action.
I use multi-sensory walking methodologies to help people and organisations slow down, pay attention, and explore their relationship with place, futures, and possibility.
The main ways to work with me:
Ways to Walk
I design and facilitate immersive walks and walkshops that combine movement, sensory attention, and reflection. From single-sense explorations (scent walks, sound walks) to thematic journeys (futures walks, climate conversations, circular economy) – each experience is crafted to shift perspective and deepen connection to place.
Custom Walking Experiences
Interested in a walk tailored to your context, community, or challenge? I collaborate with organisations, cities, communities, and other researchers to co-create place-based experiences that combine sensory exploration, futures thinking, or systems awareness, adapted to your goals and location.
Climate & sustainability workshops and teaching
I am a trained and experienced facilitator of a variety of sustainability and climate-related workshop formats including:
- Climate Fresk (also know as the Climate Collage or Das Klima Puzzle)
- Circular Economy Collage
- Biodiversity Collage
- Conscious Evolution Collage
- Values 101 for systems change
- Celemi Sustainability
- The Deep Time Walk
- En-Roads Climate Model
- Multi-solving
- Awakening the Dreamer
I have also designed climate communication programmes, climate and sustainable workshops, and university curricula around these and related topics. In additional, I have designed several of my own formats, using walking as a methodology.
I am always happy to have a conversation about running these for groups if it makes sense. Curious? Get in touch for a chat →

Walk the Futures
My interdisciplinary research at VU Amsterdam uses place-based, multi-sensory stories and local walkshops to explore agency, desirable futures, and climate action. This methodology can be adapted for custom projects.
